Erich Adolf was born in summer 1903 in Oldenburg in Oldenburg, the son of Kaufmann (merchant) Adolf Daniel de Beer and his wife Mathilde née Scheunpflug or Scheumpflug. In 1903, his family lived at Uferstraße 28, but Erich was born at the Hebammeninstitut (Midwifery Institute).
